Fitness isn’t just for adults!

Good habits start early.

Did you know that young people aged 13-17 years should accumulate at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity EVERY SINGLE DAY!? These activities should include a variety of aerobic activities as well as activity that strengthens muscle and bone, according to the Australian Government Department of Health.

That’s why we’re SO excited to launch the Youth Fitness Squad; a group fitness training program designed to improve strength, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility and coordination for kids and teens ages 8-17. We’ve even had a go at boxing (check out the pictures here!)

The health benefits of regular exercise for this age group are endless! These include…
  • Development of healthy bones, muscles and joints.
  • Development of healthy heart and lungs (if your child plays sport, too – this will be incredibly helpful!)
  • Improved coordination, strength and muscle control.
  • Maintaining a healthy body weight.
  • Improved flexibility.
  • Improved balance and posture.
  • Their brain will develop vital connections, leading to improved concentration and thinking skills (yep, they may even begin to perform better at school, too!)
  • They are less likely to develop chronic diseases, such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes (the results are long-term – not just short-term).
The program kicked off a couple of months ago and has already been incredibly popular – so popular in fact that we’ve had to extend the class size number!

I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching this group of boys and girls, watching them grow and take a keen interest in fitness has been really pleasing. Their improvements from week to week have been amazing and I can’t wait for next term to continue their fitness journey and hopefully create some strong foundations for a happy healthy lifestyle leading into the future.

Current classes run on Mondays and Thursdays from 4-5pm. That’s 60 whole minutes where you can leave them with us – then make the most of the gym facilities yourself. Children lead by example, after all, so leave a lasting impression and show them how it’s done! 

Classes run during the school term and cost $80 for the term for one class per week or $150 for the term for two classes per week (yep – you save a whole $10 per week if you want to sign up for both!)

If you missed out on your preferred class time – don’t stress! With enough expression of interest, we may be able to open another class. Call us, message us or let us know in person about your interest so we can keep tabs on interest (and keep your name at the top of the priority list!)
