Summer is here! Our top tips to get that six pack!

Summer has officially arrived and as much as we endorse a good diet and fitness regime for a healthy lifestyle – there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good, too!

After all, when you look good, you feel good. A healthy body and a happy smile makes for a winning combination!
To get you feeling and looking your best, ready to get out on the river during these warmer months, we’ve put together a few of our top tips to getting a toned tum!

1. MIX IT UP

Sit ups and crunches are one of the most popular stomach exercises worldwide – and for good reason! Working your way towards a six-pack is most easily achieved with ab exercises like these – but don’t forget to mix up different styles and techniques to really work on all areas of your abdomen. Try side crunches for your side abdominals or try leg raises to reach the lower parts of your stomach.

2. H20, H20, H20

Drinking water when you first wake up and during the day will help to keep you fuller for longer. When you think you’re hungry, drink a glass of water and re-assess. Sometimes, we confuse hunger with thirst and a glass of water (with some lemon, if you fancy it) can do just the trick to satisfy your cravings.

3. STAY HARD-CORE

Core exercises are an excellent way to build up your inner core muscles. When you have a strong core, your form is better and this allows you to nail those other exercises for your midsection that we talked about in point 1! The plank is a popular choice but there are different variations of this you can do to mix it up (and various challenges you can complete to keep things interesting!)

4. TRY A SPIN CLASS

It may sound counterintuitive – but spin classes are great to work out not just your legs but also your abdominals! The movement from a slightly bent position and side to side works both the central abdominal muscles and those along the side of your abdomen.

We have these running twice a week.

5. BAN THE BOOZE

The term “beer belly” exists for a reason. Bloating is one thing – and long-term impacts of excess drinking are another. It is a difficult time of year to avoid alcohol altogether – so try limiting it to the really “special events” during the festive period – or try to stick to low-calorie drinks such as vodka, soda and fresh lime.

6. CHOOSE THE RIGHT FOOD.

Everyone has different needs when it comes to their diet. But – there are some foods that are known to make us bloat – and some that are great for gut health. For a slimmer tummy, try incorporating probiotic-rich foods like almonds, kombucha, bananas and garlic into your daily meals. What should you avoid? Carbonated drinks and dairy products like rich milks and cheeses, to name a couple.
